Gain Midwifery Work Experience Interning in Communities in Need

Midwifery Internships in Uganda

Gain international experience working around healthcare relating to mothers and newborns. You’ll learn more about global midwifery practices while observing trained professionals at work.

You can complete your internship in a general hospital maternity ward, at a specialist maternity hospital, or at a local health center. We can help you tailor your internship to suit your interests and level of experience so that you can get the most out of your time overseas.

The Avella Sights Midwifery internship will give you relevant work experience to help you prepare for your future career in the field. You’ll build your own skills, knowledge and confidence, and improve your resume for future job or study applications.

Is a Midwifery placement in Uganda right for me?

An internship is great fit for someone pursuing a career in midwifery. You can join as a student or as a graduate looking for a new challenge in a different environment. We have Midwifery placements in Uganda to suit all skill levels. You can join if you’re just starting out or want to further your career.

During your internship, you’ll be learning directly from local professionals. This is a fantastic way to give your resume the edge it needs to stand out from other candidates. This will boost your study or job applications.

You’ll have the support of a medical supervisor, and our Avella Sights staff will be available to assist whenever needed. Feel free to work at a level you’re comfortable with. There may be opportunity to take part in outreach work in the local community, which means you’ll be learning while helping others.

If you’re a midwifery student, you can consider a Midwifery Practicum. If you’re looking for more practical work that deals with more community health issues, you can choose a Public Health internship

What are the benefits of a Midwifery internship in Uganda?

Our Midwifery placements give you the opportunity to gain international medical experience in another country.

These are some of the benefits previous interns talk about:

  • Experience with diseases and conditions affecting mothers and newborns that you might not get to see back home
  • Skills like teamwork, communication, leadership, resilience, organizing, planning, and time management
  • More in-depth work experience than you might get back home
  • Developing a global mindset from working and empathizing with people from different cultures and backgrounds
  • Confidence from challenging yourself outside of your comfort zone

These benefits will enhance your resume, strengthening your future applications, and will add to your personal development.

What sets our Midwifery internships apart?

At Avella Sights, our first aim is to benefit the communities we work in. Our internships are ethical and well supported. Here are some factors that set us apart:

We record our work in a secure database

We have the Avella Impact Database to track the positive impact of our projects. It’s secure and anonymous and we use it to identify specific areas of need. The data we record helps us shape aspects of our work, like medical outreaches and health awareness campaigns. We also use it to monitor the progress of individuals, report our results and collect data for research. All this work follows our Management Plans.

Real work with trained professionals

As an intern, you’ll work alongside real healthcare professionals. You can observe them in their everyday work, ask questions and hear more about their experiences. You’re likely to get greater exposure to the frontline of medical care than in your home country.

A tailored approach

We are often able to tailor your internship to suit your interests. You can work in more than one department or focus on one particular area, and experience outreach work in the local community.

Students doing Midwifery internships abroad enjoy spending time with local colleagues at a Tanzanian hospital.

Our Medicine & Healthcare policy

We take the safety of our volunteers, interns, and the people they work with very seriously. That’s why we’ve put in place a comprehensive Medical Ethics Policy.
