Child Protection

Avella Sights actively supports best practice child protection.

We strive to ensure that children and their families are protected from harm. The term ‘child protection’ refers to preventing and responding to violence, exploitation and abuse against children. This includes commercial sexual exploitation, trafficking, child labor and harmful traditional practices. Some children are more vulnerable to harm, with children living in poverty, areas of high tourism, without parental care, and in conflict with the law placed at the highest risk. Violations of a child’s right to protection take place in every country in the world. In addition to breaching human rights, these violations are also severely under-recognized and under-reported threats to a child’s survival and development. Avella Sights recognizes that exposure to tourism has the capacity to increase the risk of harm to children, and understands its responsibility and obligation to do no harm in the places we visit.

FAQ on Child Protection

Children are vulnerable to various forms of exploitation and abuse, such as trafficking, sexual exploitation, and child labor. Tourism can inadvertently facilitate or exacerbate these risks, especially if there are inadequate safeguards or awareness.

Avella Sights strongly advocates for responsible and sustainable tourism practices. Our policies prohibit any form of exploitation or harm to children, and we educate our staff and partners on child protection issues. We also work with relevant organizations and authorities to ensure that our tours adhere to national and international child protection standards.

TrAvellas should familiarize themselves with child protection policies and regulations in the country. They should also avoid any activities that involve or exploit children, such as orphanage visits or elephant rides. If they notice any suspicious or harmful behavior towards children, they should report it to the authorities or Avella Sights immediately.

Violating child protection standards can result in legal, financial, and reputational repercussions for Avella Sights, the offender, and potentially the entire tourism industry. It can also have lasting consequences for the child and their community.
